Installation
macOS with Homebrew (Apple Silicon / Intel)
bash
brew tap julyx10/lap
brew install --cask lapmacOS Manual Install (Apple Silicon / Intel)
- Download the latest
_aarch64.dmgor_x64.dmgfile from the Releases page. - Open the disk image and drag Lap to your Applications folder.
- Double-click to launch.
Linux (Ubuntu/Debian/Linux Mint, amd64 / arm64)
- Download the latest
_amd64.debor_arm64.debpackage from the Releases page. - Install it with your package manager or run
sudo apt install ./lap_<version>_amd64.deborsudo apt install ./lap_<version>_arm64.deb. - Launch Lap from your applications menu.
For better video playback support on Ubuntu/Debian/Linux Mint, install:

sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-libav gstreamer1.0-plugins-goodWindows 10/11 (x64 / ARM64)
- Download the latest
_x64_en-US.msior_arm64_en-US.msiinstaller from the Releases page. - Run the installer and complete the setup wizard.
- Launch Lap from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
Lap's Windows installer is currently unsigned. If Microsoft SmartScreen blocks the download or installer, choose Keep anyway or More info > Run anyway.
First Run
When you open Lap for the first time:
- Grant Permissions: Lap needs access to your folders to display photos.
- Add a Library: Point Lap to a folder containing your photos.
- Let it Index: Lap will scan your files, generate thumbnails, and build local search data. This happens on your device.
Upgrading from v0.1.x
You can install Lap v0.2.x directly over a v0.1.x installation. The local database is migrated automatically on first launch.
